Dennis Basso NYFW F/W19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Soul dance band Odyssey’s 1977 hit, “Native New Yorker,” which opened the show and formed the base of designer Dennis Basso’s homage to Manhattan fashionistas spanning all neighborhoods.
POP-CULTURE NOD: The Rothschild family’s annual reunion at Château de Ferrières in France, attended by several generations of the most famous of all European banking dynasties.
WEAR IT TO: Work the room at a fundraising event as communications director of hedge fund Bridgewater Associates, held on the observatory deck of One World Trade Center.
FIRST READ: Basso served up a suite of his trademark mink coats, Grecian floaty gowns with sweat-heart necklines and feather-dusted strapless red-carpet gowns that looked fit for last-minute selections for the Academy Awards. Eel-skin leather skirts paired with a faux-fur jacket – cinched at the waist with a corset-style belt – and teamed with knee-high suede boots added a downtown hipster edge to the lineup.
BEST LOOK: An ethereal princess chiffon dress featuring asymmetrical layers and front bow detail, with a rose-gold bandeau insert and sash-like sleeves.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Leopard print on full ball skirts and fuzzy trench coats, Upper West Side-friendly floor-length double-breasted capelets worn with matching gloves, and a statement plaid coat with fur accents, styled with matching tweed boots.
