Dennis Basso NYFW S/S20 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The desire to shake things up this season, Mr. Basso added a youthful vibe to his latest collection via a series of midi dresses in modern silhouettes with a distinct contemporary flair, catering to brand devotees who dare to venture below 14th Street (or have a daughter who does.)
POP-CULTURE NOD: Nicky Hilton Rothschild attending a charity fundraiser event on the sprawling grounds of a private estate in Southampton.
WEAR IT TO: Arrive by gondola to walk the red carpet at the premiere of your former flame’s rom com at the Venice Film Festival.
FIRST READ: Basso played to his fan’s penchant his Grecian statement frocks and classic daywear separates, while also hoping to cast a wider net via a series of versatile blazers, edgy leather bombers and sleeveless shifts. Fans of his red carpet looks were sure to be pleased by the show’s closing looks: think strapless column gowns with feather detailing, a halter neck dress with cheeky cutouts, cinched at the waist with a black belt, and floaty maxi dresses in a blue-and-white paisley print.
BEST LOOK: A strappy sundress featuring an A-line skirt, covered in a geometric print designed in collaboration with artist Ashley Longshore, and worn with an oversized white hat with a matching band and strappy heels.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Patterned crop tops teamed with suede pants and Western-style trench coats, cropped jackets with floral embroidery detail, and pussycat bows on a billowy white silk frock, which added an injection of ladylike edge to the polished lineup.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Lisa Rinna, Deborah Cox, J. Alexander, Carol Alt, Dee Hilfiger, Jeremy Carver, Alison Broad, Stan Herman, Andrew Werner, Melissa Gorga, Jamie Tisch, Lizzy Tisch.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:
“It’s nice to see more cross-disciplinary partnerships this season. Designers are really putting in the extra hard yards this year.”
COLOR WHEEL: Pink, cerulean, cream, blush, apricot, navy, baby blue, yellow, black.
