Deveaux NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The idea of the free-spirited woman on the dance floor as key behind Creative Director Tommy Ton latest offering, which channeled the brand’s knack for delivering refined wardrobe essentials with a focus on minimalism.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Aubrey Plaza hosting a panel discussion at the Tribeca Film Festival.
WEAR IT TO: Spend a week at a luxury resort in Zanzibar, followed by four days and nights tracking the wildebeest migration and resident game at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Serengeti national park.
FIRST READ: Tommy Tom demonstrated his innate knowledge of making pared-back separates in neutral tones look effortlessly classic and chic through smart tailoring and drapey silhouettes. Crepe blazers, straight-leg pants and dresses with strategic cutouts played to the staples side of the lineup, while ribbed knit and satin tunics, printed silk dresses, and slouchy kaftans added a feminine touch to the model-off-duty collection.
BEST LOOK: The show’s opening piece – a bone white pleated crepe de chine dress with a drop waist and crossover straps at plunge back – teamed with brown leather mules. Also on point was the closing look – a cream poplin top with a collared neckline and tiered silhouette with tie accents at the slit, styled over a camel midi dress.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: A neutral color palette that morphed into louder tones as the show progressed, a Janet Jackson cover performed by a live band as the show unfolded, and an energetic marching band that stoked the spirited atmosphere of the all-inclusive lineup.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “It’s so nice to see models having fun for a change – this has been the happiest show I’ve seen all week.”
COLOR WHEEL: Taupe, beige, black, navy, khaki, olive, red, gray, rust, marigold, slate, black, cream, navy, charcoal, brown, camel, yellow.
