SHOW: Dion Lee – Resort 2017
LOCATION: The rooftop at 1 Bligh Street (otherwise referred to as the Bloomberg building)
DATE: May. 16
START TIME: 8PM + 50 mins
TOP INSTA LOOK: A series of structured one-shoulder asymmetrical white looks which appeared as if the fabric was peeled back like a dog tagged book page. Smart tailoring kept pieces slim fit despite the layered voluminous effect.
BEHIND THE SCENES: The show had attendees wait one hour on the rooftop beneath the stars at the Bloomberg Building at 1 Blight Street.
OFF PROBATION: Swarovski fabric comprised of crocheted crystals. Lace coiled corsetry over cream cotton ribbing. Barely-there glass jewelry by Sarah & Sebastian.
GOOD BEHAVIOUR BOND: A lavender-hued one-shoulder figure-hugging shape dress with fold over handkerchief neckline and full-length sleeves, featuring a risqué sheer lace built-in skirt and styled with nude ankle boots with a peep toe.
INSPIRED BY: Light, refraction and the glass of the show’s interior surrounds, Lee played with proportions in a collection sure to become staples of the brand’s loyal devotees.
POP CULTURE-NOD: Think Lara Worthington nee Bingle grabbing a cappuccino with her bub at Fratelli Fresh in Potts Point on a Saturday afternoon, or the sort of attire Catherine McNeil might select for the photo op on Melbourne’s Derby Day.
WEAR IT TO: If lieu of carrying your Australian passport around Mulberry Street in Soho to subtly notify the locals that you are indeed from the land Down Under.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “How many football WAGs can you count in the front row?”
SPOTTED: Jacinta Campbell, Pip Edwards, Nadia Fairfax, Lindy Klim, Kate Waterhouse, Tanja Gacic, Sara Donaldson and Yael Stone.
COLOR WHEEL: Black, citrus lemon and lime, stark whites.
BEATS: Adrian Sergovich.
THE DOCKET: The collection played out like Patrick Bateman’s wife’s sleek and aggressively sexual happy hour wardrobe. Featuring a bevy of the designer’s trademark asymmetrical lines in scuba fabric with undone edges and boxy shapes, Lee showcased his latest line of flattering pieces in Sydney’s downtown CBD to a packed house in a glass nighttime starry wonderland.
