Escada NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The race horse after which the house was founded by former owners Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley, in addition to two 80’s and 90’s iconic films, Working Girl and Pretty Woman, cited by new creative director Niall Sloan as key influences behind the collection.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen embracing the 80’s trend by hosting a Wall Street-themed Kentucky Derby party.
WEAR IT TO: Your first day as Head of Color Creation at Crayola, followed by welcome happy hour drinks at the Sugar Factory.
FIRST READ: Brand owner Megha Mittal pulled out all the stops for the label’s 40th anniversary, hiring the iconic Park Avenue Armory – favored also by Tom Ford – a a string of heavy-hitters to run hair, makeup and production specs. For the clothes themselves, Sloan focused on the fashion house’s roots – oversized blazers with structured shoulders, trousers covered in a horse-racing print, and chain-link belting, with color-blocking featured throughout. Think 80’s power dressing at its finest – the only thing missing was crimped hair.
BEST LOOK: A coat covered in the brand’s logo in oversized text in primary color hues, worn over a matching sheer skirt and styled with vibrant high tops and cats-eye sunglasses.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Vintage earrings and belts, padded cross-stich clutches, red, blue and yellow slip-on booties, with a heart-shaped motif featured throughout on bags and necklaces.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Kate Bosworth, Caroline Daur, Angela Sarafyan, Amber Valletta, Skai Jackson, Vanessa Hong, Mimi Elashiry.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “That electric blue blazer is the first thing I’d wear if my firm ever introduced casual Fridays.”
COLOR WHEEL: Sunshine yellow, magenta, blue, red, black, lemon, green, navy, camel, taupe, lime, peach, pink.
