FIVE POINTS – DEAD RABBIT

dr8

Named after an Irish-American street gang from the 1850’s, the dark underbelly of Dead Rabbit Grocery & Grog provides a swanky hiding spot for the modern-day Gangs of New York to grab a top-shelf whisky while plotting their next phase of a revenge attack. Located on Water Street, the spot is a favorite among the titans of Wall Street in search of a quality stiff drink while nutting out the murky terms of a yet-to-be-announced bumper M&A deal. Shuffle across the sawdust of the bar’s laidback taproom or enjoy a craft cocktail in the parlor upstairs. The jury has voted unanimously that you must try one. They’re THAT good. Dead Rabbit has frequently topped multiple world’s best bar lists since opening its doors in 2015 and continues to chalk-up the accolades as its infamous cocktail list evolves.

Turning the notion of an Irish pub on its head, the nineteenth-century-themed bar has the same exclusive feel as former speakeasy darling, Milk & Honey, without the pretentiousness. Adding to the atmosphere’s authenticity is the founder, Sean Muldoon, and his bar staff’s penchant for dressing in suspenders and plain. Muldoon, the creative force behind a world’s top bar in Europe, and partner Jack McGarry – a self-proclaimed drinks encyclopedia – arrived from their home of Belfast with a sole mandate: “To create the world’s best bar. Again.”

Pull up a stool and grab a “Gangsta’s Paradise”, a mix of Calvados, Pommeau de Normandie, caramel, lemon, pimento and smoked-Applewood salt; or try a “Snake Charmer”, a blend of Mezcal, New York gin, Oregon Gin, Blanc Vermouth, yellow Chartreuse and Gentiane. Or challenge the bartenders to concoct a bespoke creation for your taste-buds’ pleasure. Just leave your lucky rabbit foot at the door.
