Greta Constantine NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The opulent glamour and excess of the 80’s. Canadian design duo Kirk Pickersgill and Stephen Wong referenced memories of playing dress-up as children as key behind their latest collection, which conjured up images of Studio 54 in its heyday.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Absolutely Fabulous’ Patsy Stone grabbing a dirty martini between shows at the Tents at former fashion week headquarters, Bryant Park. Think Dynasty-meets-the VIP crowd at Meatpacking’s Le Bain.
WEAR IT TO:Â Brand aficionado Meghan Markle’s star-studded Cyndi Lauper-themed bachelorette party at L.A.’s Soho House.
FIRST READ:Â Structured shoulders, pouf mini skirts and Halston-inspired jumpsuits played to the show’s take on 80’s silhouettes, while powder puff sleeves, oversized bows and metallic fabrics added a ‘club kid on acid’ vibe to the lineup.
BEST LOOK:Â A one-shouldered dress with a full sleeve and a tulle ballerina skirt, teamed with black fishnets and a crystal statement earring.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS:Â Gold rope belts creating high-waisted definition on a green lurex strapless jumpsuit, angular Parisian berets and stockings worn with open-toe heels.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:Â “The 35-minute ride uptown was definitely worth it on day one of fashion week.”
COLOR WHEEL:Â Silver, fuchsia, gold, pink, red, black, petrol, brown, camel.
