Haus Alkire F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The work of pioneering American taxidermist Carl Ethan Akeley and the dichotomy between his passion for hunting and conservation and wildlife protection efforts.
POP-CULTURE NOD: The wardrobe shortlist of the editors of Numéro Magazine ahead of a feature on the Congo’s hottest Instagram stars.
WEAR IT TO: A Q&A with Suzan Murray of the Smithsonian Global Health Program about the institutes efforts to save the endangered black rhino.
FIRST READ: An edgy and minimalist collection with an abundance of nature-inspired prints and versatile separates capable of transitioning into spring.
BEST LOOK: A strapless black asymmetrical dress featuring allover tuck detail and paired with taupe ankle boots.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Animal and nature-inspired prints, and a focus on draping, tucking and pleating. Multifunctional pieces – such as a maroon dress featuring a hare and moose print – neatly expanded the wearability of the collection, while the focus on clever construction prevented layered looks from appearing weighed-down.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:Â “Loving that dress, but I’m seriously lusting over that chair.” [On the designers’ decision to hold the presentation in a furniture store.]
COLOR WHEEL: Maroon, navy, black, grey, crimson, wine, mustard, emerald.
