Haus Alkire S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY:Â A recent trip to the Alpine village of Verbier, where designers Julie and Jason Alkire designed a screen print using pressed flowers sourced from local botanical gardens.
POP-CULTURE NOD: What the editors of Numéro Magazine might dress its models in for a feature on Scandinavia’s hottest Instagram stars.
WEAR IT TO:Â A Verlocal butterfly-hunting expedition at Prospect Park Zoo.
FIRST READ:Â A light and ethereal collection with an abundance of adjustable accents capable of allowing looks to transition from the warmer months into a more covered-up wardrobe for fall.
BEST LOOK: A boat neck midi-shirt dress with knotted ties in a computer-generated color-block print, worn with white slides on a braided straw sole.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Car-racing print collars, influenced by the waiters’ uniforms of the Alkire’s hotel in Switzerland. Multifunctional pieces – such as reversible dress and fly-away ties – neatly expanded the wearability of the collection, while the focus on clever construction prevented layered looks from appearing weighed-down.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:Â “Loving that dress, but I’m seriously lusting over that chair.” [On the designers’ decision to hold the presentation in a furniture store.]
COLOR WHEEL:Â Baby blue, navy, black, chartreuse, black-and-white check, geometric color print.
