Hellessy F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Hollywood regency and the opulence and excess of the 1980’s. Designer Sylvie Millstein’s cited interior designer Tony Duquette – a former favorite of the Hollywood social set – as a key influence behind her collection.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Daisy Buchanan as the leading female role in the remake of Jay McInerney’s 80’s publishing drama, Bright Lights, Big City. Think margarita time by the pool at the Chateau Marmont.
WEAR IT TO: A Krav Maga open mat session in Tribeca before heading to cocktails at Locanda Verde.
FIRST READ: Millstein stayed true to the brand’s signature aesthetic via puffy sleeves, drapey silhouettes, plunging gowns and vampy separates, on which the label first made its splash. The jewel-toned color palette reflected the hedonism of the silver screen that influenced the collection, while clever layering and deconstructed suiting gave the lineup a feminine, breezy edge.
BEST LOOK:Â A pastel pink floor-length dress in a wallpaper print, tied at the front and featuring fringing detailing, styled with black leather gloves and mismatched silver earrings.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS:Â Statement mismatched earrings, floral corsages, balloon sleeves and a boxing-inspired money green kimono.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:Â “The bling of this collection reminds me of Slim Adams’ ‘Poolside‘ California photo series.”
COLOR WHEEL:Â Dusty pink, money green, red, white, magenta, lemon, navy, peach, yellow.
