Hellessy NYFW S/S19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The beach and a longing for the hot and sultry dog days of summer. Designer Sylvie Millstein’s latest lineup is intended to showcase bronzed, sun-kissed skin well after Labor Day.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Rita Ora partying on a yacht in the French Riviera.
WEAR IT TO: Flash your red, white and blue while watching a six-piece band perform on the Soho House rooftop as part of its Bastille Day celebration.
FIRST READ: Millstein delivered the brand’s signature vampy silk dresses in red and powder blue hues, while also offering more structured options via a strapless yellow floor-length number and an array of one-shouldered looks. The show took a Parisian turn via a set of blue and white striped dresses with concertina finishing, worn with oversized boater hats with red ribbon flyaways, also in contrasting red and white.
BEST LOOK: A blue and white deconstructed menswear shirt, knotted at the waist and with slits up the arms, styled with lemon drainpipe pants with trailing half skirt attached.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Cannes-ready oversized sun hats, statement drop earrings, and text on hoodies and sweatpants in French which translated to, “I’d rather be at the beach.”
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Is it too early to have a cocktail? I’ve heard their take on a cosmo is to die for.”
COLOR WHEEL: Red, coral, white, black, maroon, blue, lemon, sunshine yellow, navy.
