Hellessy S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Sylvie Millstein’s recent trip to Utah and the sort of wardrobe All-American model and actress Lauren Hutton would pack for a stylish roadtrip across the southwest.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Lily Aldridge wearing matching bucket hats with daughter Dixie while relaxing over a skinny Mai Tai at the COMO Parrot Bay Resort in Turks & Caicos. Think Blake Lively being whisked away by Leonardo DiCaprio for a secret date on the French Riviera.
WEAR IT TO: The annual mechanics industry ball dressed Little Bow Peep, before going on block leave and jetting to an island without motorized transport.
FIRST READ: Designer Millstein stayed true to the brand’s signature aesthetic via puffy sleeves, drapey silhouettes, one-shouldered gowns and vampy separates, on which the label first made its splash. The muted color palette reflected the natural landscape of the desert that influenced the collection, while clever layering and deconstructed suiting gave the lineup a feminine, breezy edge.
BEST LOOK: An off-the-shoulder, mutton-sleeve top knotted at the bodice in a floral print, styled with a button-down soft pink midi-skirt.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Statement aqua earrings, celestial and Southwestern motif prints, balloon sleeves and relaxed bucket hats.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Jennifer Grace, James Aguiar, Margarita Levieva, Mary Leest, Zoya Loeb, Alex Brown, Brooke Adams, Samantha Sheinson.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:Â “The grace of this collection reminds me of Slim Adams’ ‘Poolside‘ California photography series.”
COLOR WHEEL:Â Dusty pink, apricot, maroon, white, mustard, navy, red, aqua, yellow.
