Jason Wu F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Italian architect and industrial designer Ettore Sottsass and his student, Michele De Lucchi, and Spanish couturier Mariano Fortuny and her legendary mastery of pleating, tucking and fluting materials into a shape flattering to the body.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Sienna Miller attending Frozen on Broadway.
WEAR IT TO:Â Your job interview to join the creative team behind the costume designs at the Joffrey Ballet.
FIRST READ:Â Swarovksi crystals peppered across tulle skirts, overcoats, sleeveless sheaths and simple shifts played to the show’s princess vibe, while jewel-tone silk dresses, trousers and smoking jackets catered to the brand’s street-style devotees. As always, asymmetrical detailing and cheeky cutouts, ruched-neck dresses and nature-inspired tones, matched Wu’s focus on smart tailoring and creating wearable looks for the corporate fashion folk.
BEST LOOK:Â An petrol green trench, worn with matching pajama-style suit pants, styled with white lace-up booties.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Belle Hadid in a navy oversized Wu coat with crystal detailing, and corset-like heels as part of a collaboration with Manolo Blahnik. The bright floral set design amped-up the show’s feminine vibe, with some guests commenting on the looks they’d already shortlisted to their wardrobe wish lists for spring.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:Â “This is the second show I’ve seen today that’s seemed ballet-inspired.”
COLOR WHEEL:Â Magenta, grey, red, forest green, navy, lime, blue, maroon, black.
