The fash pack and Alibaba counterfeit merchants everywhere rejoiced in Jeremy Scott’s latest collection for Moschino, which played out like every eight-year old girl’s wish list to Santa come December.
Fast food – namely McDonalds – was flavor of the month for the in-demand designer for fall, but this season Scott paid homage to the bulky resume of the All-iconic American girl, Barbie, in a fun, bubblegum show that bopped along to Aqua’s catchy ode to the beloved brand.
Flexing his flair for making kitsch cool, the creative head handed over a string of Barbie-inspired dresses, sure to see fashionistas everywhere swapping their Golden Arches for a blonde wig come spring.
Looks ranged from corporate Barbie, in a matching embellished pink suit, to Venice Beach barbie, in a racy one-piece black swimsuit with peace-sign chains and hat with the Moschino label in bright popping colors.
Upper West Side Barbie was given a dose of sex appeal with a metallic trench, waist chain and black and gold head scarf, while model of the moment Charlotte Free blazed down the catwalk as roller-skating Barbie in a dusty pink bra, tracksuit shorts and sweatband, emblazoned with the doll’s iconic logo.
Trailer trash Barbie – formerly hedge fund manager Barbie in another life – was given a chance to redeem herself and her bank balance through a matching sweats set in the same logo fabric, teamed with pink kitten heels and a miniature clutch.
The show evolved like the playlist of Barbie’s CV, peaking with a series of ‘80s-inspired prom dresses, sure to explode on social media next season.
Standouts included a bright blue cocktail dresses with voluminous sleeves, covered in space shapes in a variety of primary colors, while a strapless mini with a flowing train in vibrant hues of yellow, pink and turquoise covered in polka dots was given an extra dose of sugary sweet with an oversized hair bow.
While the ‘80s-style lineup is well equipped for recreating your favorite scene from Dirty Dancing on Saturday night over your third glass of sauvignon blanc, for accessories, Scott made a direct nod to the 90s through bubble backpacks and metallic clutches, chunky gold necklaces and chain belts adorning model’s limbs.
With enough sugar to put even a mild diabetic on life support, Scott’s latest offering showcased the designer’s innovative knack for taking mainstream high-end.
With Alibaba scoring the gong for the world’s largest initial public offering ever at $25 billion, CEO Jack Ma is sure to be tickled pink as the Frow let their fingers do the walking on the prowl for a new Moschino iPhone case for fall.
