Jeremy Scott NYFW S/S20 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The idea of escapism via journeying into the dizzying vastness of outer space, designer Jeremy Scott took guests with him down the rabbit hole into a world reminiscent of the Beastie Boys’ “Intergalactic” on acid. While his last fake news-themed show was monochromatic black-and-white color palette, this show featured an explosion of color on ‘80s silhouettes and racy candy raver looks.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Judy and Elroy Jetson packing their suitcase for electronic dance festival Tomorrowland in Boom, Belgium.
WEAR IT TO: Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion night at Brooklyn’s House of Yes, followed by an underground rave aboard the Intrepid.
FIRST READ: In a mashup of references ranging from outer space, to Western, to circus ringmaster, to Hawaiian beaches, Scott spared to expense in adding bells and whistles to every look in a show that moved so quickly it was hard to keep up with the strobe of changing looks. After opening with a psychedelic mini dress covered in silver tube piping, he transitioned to frilly metallic party frocks, one-shoulder prom numbers in tiger prints with oversized fabric flowers as a modern corsage, menswear blazers and metallic leather jackets
BEST LOOK: A cropped denim jacket featuring a front zipper and covered in metallic leather patches, teamed with a matching skirt, mini backpack, and pink boots. Also key was a silver jacket covered in a multi-colored dot print, worn over a bralette and paired with an asymmetrical frilly rah-rah skirt and bronze boots.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Neon wigs fashioned into voluminous bobs played to the show’s theatrical vibe, metallic thigh-high boots and booties, animal and tropical fruit prints, and acrylic jewelry, which added a dose of fun to the sugar-loaded show.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Heidi Klum, Tom Kaulitz, Cailli Beckerman, Sam Beckerman, Charlotte Lawrence, Zhavia Ward, G-Eazy, Saweetie, Gigi Hadid, Maye Musk, Jameela Jamil, Coco Rocha, Irina Shayk, Jon Kortajarena, Lisa Rinna, Erika Jayne, Nicole Scherzinger, Offset, Kayley Kellan, Jonathan Cheban, Trevor Jackson.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “There’s literally something for everyone in this show. Makes me think of a version of Happy Dead Day where the character keeps waking up on the morning of their prom.”
COLOR WHEEL: Blue, aqua, yellow, green, magenta, gold, fuchsia, white, apricot, lime, brown, navy, purple, red, black, silver, turquoise.
