Jill Stuart F/W 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Female individuality and self expression through art, designer Jill Stuart paid tribute to the Chelsea Girl movement through her collection of floral, frilly frocks, while the lineup took an Oriental turn through Asian-inspired prints on satin blazers and bodies.
POP-CULTURE NOD: LA-based pop rock band Haim with flower crowns in her hair playing a early-evening set on weekend one of Coachella.
WEAR IT TO: Your next Tinder date over coffee in the library at The Strand bookstore’s 5th Ave. offshoot in the Club Monaco flagship, before perusing the shop’s design section for some apartment redecorating inspiration.
FIRST READ: Signature ruffled cowboy shirts and dresses gave the show an ethereal romantic vibe, while layered looks and emblazoned belts added a vintage, Victorian feel to the mix.
BEST LOOK: A black and cream frilly blouse, worn with high-waisted striped trousers and cinched at the waist with a floral oriental belt.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Stuart collaborated with illustrator Langley Fox for the invitations, and models were positioned to read tarot cards and a copy of Pulp Fiction to echo the show’s romantic vibe.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Have you tried the white frosted sugar cookies with edible gold leaf?”
COLOR WHEEL: Rust, dusty pink, camel, red, black, white, ivory, red.
