Jonathan Simkhai NYFW F/W19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Reflecting on designer Jonathan Simkhai’s heritage, namely his grandmother’s roots in the Ukrainian port city of Odessa. Also key behind the laid-back collection was Simkhai’s recent move from New York to Los Angeles.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Anne Hathaway fighting to keep her post of CEO of About the Fit as Jules Ostin in The Intern.
WEAR IT TO: Embrace the elegance and charm of the swing era with a cocktail at Top of The Standard’s Sunset Jazz Sessions, anchored by the vocals of Sarah King of The Smoke Rings.
FIRST READ: Embroidered scarves and paisley prints on silk slips and wrap dresses formed the focal point of the flirty collection, while the brand’s signature lace detailing played to the brand’s core clientele. Padded puffer jackets, relaxed-fit trenches and distressed denim separates added an element of street-style edge to the otherwise ladylike mix.
BEST LOOK: A navy double-breasted trench with white stitching, worn over a white dress and teamed with black suede loafers.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Models sauntered down the main runway as guests rotated around the packed presentation, while a three-piece band provided the entertainment as people gravitated towards the open bar. Also key were sheer lace party frocks with asymmetrical hemlines and built-in corsetry.
