KAOHS NYFWM S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The idea of a hipster cowgirl, designer duo Tess Hamilton and Ali Hoffman sought to create a fresh take on California beach culture – a mix of skate, boho, and surf.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Jessica Simpson looking to spice things up with husband Eric Johnson in front of their beachfront villa in Malibu by recreating the set of her soap-filled 2005 Western single, These Boots are Made for Walkin’.
WEAR IT TO: Boot scooting lessons on the sand by your hotel on spring break in Cancun as an alternative to partaking in the UCLA-organized wet t-shirt contest, followed by beers by the bonfire after the fraternity kids go to bed.
FIRST READ: Athletic tops with laced frontage, frilly coverups, S&M-style corsets and bold denim jackets gave the show a good girl-gone-bad aesthetic, while staple separates in earthy tones played to the show’s California dreaming tone.
BEST LOOK: A white bikini top, teamed with a deep-v, high-cut bottom, blue and white vintage cowboy boots and a cream woolen Western hat.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Knee-high cowboy boots, backless chaps with fringed suede detailing, Western hats, riding crops and a knotted lasso played to the show’s cattle-ranch vibe.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “My grandfather was a farmer and I think he’d have a heart attack right now if he saw such a racy show! It’s very 50 Shades of Grey.”
COLOR WHEEL: Slate, leopard, white, peach, black, charcoal, red, navy, brown, camel.
