Katie Gallagher S/S 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Titled, “Rain,” designer Katie Gallagher took a literal approach in paying homage to falling water through her presentation’s elaborate set construction, whereby models rotated under green and blue fluorescent lights while abstract raindrops were digitally projected onto their faces. “Some Feel Rain”, by poet Joanna Klink, was also cited as an influence behind the show.

WEAR IT TO: Your audition for the Bolshoi Ballet Academy’s winter intensive program in Moscow.
FIRST READ: Sheer polka-dot overlays, satin shirts, pastel one-piece leotards and evening robes gave the collection a ‘dance rehearsal meets slumber party’ vibe, while a dramatic tulle skirt and deconstructed bomber with intricate pearl detail added a hint of ladylike goth to the lineup.
BEST LOOK: A one-piece powder-blue maillot, worn over matching tights and fishnets, paired with a grey mink sash.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Pearls handstitched onto fishnet tights, mesh ballet-style top and a black bomber. Two pearls glued beneath the models’ eyes kept in check with the show’s under-the-sea theme, while messy top knots were a subtle nod to the unofficial dancer-off-duty aesthetic.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Do you think Physique 57 is better than Pure Barre? I need to start cancelling all of my subscriptions around town.”
COLOR WHEEL: Powder blue, black, pearl, grey, white.
BEATS: A mashup created by Gallagher and Mark McPheeters, which featured clapping thunder and the sound of heavy downpour.
