Lela Rose S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The desire to mix fashion, food and fun in a festive, garden-party type atmosphere. Designer Rose constructed the beginnings of a carnival, complete with everything but a giant Ferris wheel.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Charlotte York meeting the team for happy hour at Sant Ambroeus in the West Village, following a frantic dash through Central Park to find an off-peak Uber to escort her downtown.
WEAR IT TO: See author Donna Tart read from her latest book in the intimate backyard garden at Tipsy Parson in Chelsea.
FIRST READ: Striped summery dresses, one-shouldered frocks with floral-print detailing and peasant-style looks with lace accents made for a feminine and flirty collection, while tailored separates with ruffles and side ties added a polished element to the mix. Think Kate Middleton with the downtown cool of Emily Blunt.
BEST LOOK: A boatneck sleeveless midi dress with a cinched waist and bow at the front, covered in a red floral print and teamed with taupe flat slides.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Models flexing their intellectual chops over games of chess and fake pigeons peppered throughout the presentation space, while guests were treated to a gourmet hot-dog stand, portrait illustrations, a flower stand and cookie cart.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “They’re the cleanest pigeons I’ve ever seen in the history of New York City, probably the most hygienic faux animal also.”
COLOR WHEEL: Red, pink taupe, powder blue, black, white, forest green, yellow, tangerine, lime.
