Libertine F/W 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Upcycled fashion, Emanuel Ungaro and Christian Lacroix’s fashion of the 1980’s and CNN’s Style With Elsa Klensch. Featuring pop-culture references and eclectic embellishments galore, designer Johnson Hartig served up a bucketload of fashion fun – think a cheeky bottle print on a Japanese kimono blouse, or a jacket with watches emblazoned across it.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Lea Michele as the lead in the London revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
WEAR IT TO: Celebrate the mystical elements of magic at the Salem Witch’s Halloween Ball, paying homage to the Festival of the Dead in Massachusetts.
FIRST READ: Painted stockings and nail jewelry amped-up the show’s theatrical flair, while shimmery sweats, ostrich feathers on sparkly black cocktail dresses, and sheer separates with text scrawled across them echoed the collection’s party vibe.
BEST LOOK: Dystopian costumery, namely via a watermelon coat with fabric embroidery and tassel detailing, styled with a diamante choker, embellished tights, feathered heels and nail flair.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: CND created personalized nail art for each look, using Swarovski crystals, bird skulls, safety pins, tassels, working lava lamps and fringed detailing. Psychedelic flats with holographic tie detailing were worn throughout.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “That watch jacket totally reminds me of Alice Through the Looking Glass.
COLOR WHEEL: Orange, watermelon, khaki, red, gold, black, navy, green, lemon.
