Libertine NYFW S/S19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The concept of fashion as a form of resistance, the surrealist works of Salvador Dali, and British artist Damien Hirst.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Kelly Osbourne hanging backstage in the VIP section with The Kooks at Coachella., weekend one.
WEAR IT TO: Telfar’s hedonistic haunted house-themed after party at the White Castle chain in Times Square.
FIRST READ: Jewel embellishments on blazers worn without pants, menswear suiting in a goblet print, clashing patterns on jackets, Studio 54 disco sparkly detail on coats and bombers, and crustacean motifs popped up in the jam-packed collection, sure to be held in high regard by the brand’s fiercely loyal and flamboyant fans.
BEST LOOK: A black jumpsuit covered in sequins and padlock accents, styled with heels sporting a crayfish image. Also key was an oversized blazer with four smoking baby images on the front.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Guests were gifted with sticker books to be used before the show, and the same decals were splattered over model’s legs like tattoos,
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Anthony Kiedis, Thom Browne, Jan Arnold, Linda Fargo, Fern Mallis, Ken Downing, James Goldstein, Hamish Bowles, James Aguiar, Ariel Penzer, Bronwyn Newport, Calli Beckerman, Sam Beckerman, Natalie Lim Suarez, Dylana Lim Suarez.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Only at a Libertine show could you see Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers put stickers on his face.”
COLOR WHEEL: Powder pink, gold, black, green, khaki, light blue, red, yellow, white, purple.
