Libertine NYFW S/S20 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The debut of Josh Hartig’s fabric and wallpaper partnership with textile house, Schumacher, which celebrates the brand’s daring nature and playful flair. The designer also paid homage to his Saudi Arabian roots and current L.A. base via a series of clashing prints in popping hues.
POP-CULTURE NOD: David Bowie’s goddaughter assuming the persona as Iggy Stardust while talking shop with Cyndi Lauper at a late-night Sake bar in the East Village.
WEAR IT TO: The fall wedding of your closest frenemy in noncompliance with her strictly enforced dress code demanding “demure attire in muted tones”.
FIRST READ: Ignoring fashion rules #101 remained key for Hartig this season, with looks ranging from one-shoulder cocktail gowns and statement maxis in clashing tribal prints to silk kimono wraps opening the show. The vibe turned considerably streetwear with a slew of printed bombers in black and white, teamed with sporty socks, while unisex tailored suiting in floral prints and sheer abstract patterns played to the brand’s signature British rocker aesthetic.
BEST LOOK: A demure duster in emerald and peacock blue tones featuring embroidery detail, teamed with ripped black tights and strappy heels with a ruffle at the toe. The look was given a 70’s feel with a giant beehive and sweeping bangs.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Statement eye makeup worn throughout gave the show a Sleep No More-meets-MoMa Garden Party aesthetic: think the sort of getup one might wear to a Shakespeare-themed Halloween fete.
