LRS S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: A quieter approach to designer Raul Solis’ penchant for serving up club kid eveningwear. Less of an acid trip than the Proenza Schouler alum’s previous spring offering – staged at the overflowing Rumpus Room in the Lower East Side – Solis’ latest collection catered to the late-night owl with a day job. Officially, Solis cited German artist Hannah Höch as key behind the label’s tonal shift, namely Höch’s photomontage works and political agitation.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Scarlett Johansson on the set of Jimmy Fallon, joking with the talk-show host as he performs a bit previewing a potential Trump-inspired Crayola resistance color.
WEAR IT TO: Your London audition for a spot as back-up dancer during the Beastie Boys’ performance of Intergalactic at Glastonbury.
FIRST READ: Geometric prints, stripes and one-shouldered looks gave the lineup a distinct 70’s vibe, while color-blocking, tie-dyed prints and laser-cut patterns added a youthful, grungy feel to the lineup. Think Nirvana meets Florence and the Machine.
BEST LOOK: A geometric one-shouldered color-blocked dress in lilac, mustard, apricot, yellow and grey, featuring an asymmetrical hemline and sheer arm detail.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Plays on proportion via layered silhouettes and models clutching reams of newspaper matching the prints on the fabric.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I remember the LRS show last year on Eldridge was so crowded I watched it from behind the bar with the cocktail waitress.”
COLOR WHEEL: Red, orange, white, black, lilac, grey, apricot, yellow, purple, brown, beige, rust, powder blue, indigo, navy.
