INSPIRED BY: Designer Marc Jacobs decision to strip back the theatrics and focus on what he does best: dramatic red-carpet getups with a grungy, youthful edge. Tonight’s collection was all about plays on proportion and blurring lines.
POP-CULTURE NOD: The cast of Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House taking a break from confronting the ghastly memories of their old home to host a Jay Gatsby-style soiree event for their new neighbors.
WEAR IT TO: Look bewitching at the VIP after-party following a screening of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 3.
FIRST READ: Shown to a smaller crowd than usual at Flatiron’s Park Avenue Armory, Jacobs unveiled an array of enchanting cocktail frocks with feather detail, signature off-the-shoulder gowns with column trains, and cozy coats with a grunge aesthetic. Classic suiting was given a nighttime upgrade via satin paneling and interesting neckpieces, while Christy Turlington in a striking black ostrich feather dress with a matching fascinator and black leather boots was a look that seemed tailored for Lady Gaga ahead of the upcoming Oscars.
BEST LOOK: A paisley dress in icy blue hues, worn under a navy capelet covered in a mix of feathers and sequins with a peacock neckline, styled with maroon heels.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Swagger hats designed by milliner Stephen Jones added a dapper vibe to the collection, while the American Contemporary Music Ensemble narrated the dramatic procession.
