Marc Jacobs F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The ostentatious excess of the 1980’s and the haute couture mega brands of the era – Thierry Mugler, Emanuel Ungaro, and Saint Laurent.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Janet Jackson going incognito while enjoying aprés-ski at The Little Nell at the base of Aspen Mountain after a long day on the slopes during her annual pilgrimage to the town.
WEAR IT TO: Watch the ‘race that stops a nation’ by the four-meter-long oval swimming pool forming the centrepiece of the “club de la plage” within French champagne house Mumm’s Melbourne Cup Carnival Birdcage.
FIRST READ: Bold suiting, heavy woolen oversized blazers with exaggerated shoulder pads, draped boyfriend coats and tapered leather pants gave way to a series of party dresses featuring ruffle detailing and a floral print, and a handful of red carpet-ready body-con gowns.
BEST LOOK: A layered, draped jade woolen double-breasted coat, worn with plum leather trousers, a lilac silk neck scarf and a black boater hat.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Black flat-brimmed hats by milliner Stephen Jones, jewel-colored sashes and voluminous coats, lace-up brogues and zebra-print silk ball skirts.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “What do you think about John Targon from Baja East being brought in to design the contemporary line?”
COLOR WHEEL: Maroon, aqua, white, rust, plum, brown, blue, apricot, forest green, grey, magenta, yellow.
