Marc Jacobs S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Titled, “Somewhere”, the designer referenced taking a mental vacation into a magical fantasyland beyond the concrete jungle of New York, inhabited by colorful nods to athleticism and ladylike looks with a swinging 60’s feel.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Paris Hilton enjoying aprés-ski at The Little Nell at the base of Aspen Mountain after a long day on the slopes during her annual pilgrimage to the town.
WEAR IT TO: The red-carpet opening of your hybrid vintage-millinery store in the East Village, where you maintain a strict policy of accepting only vintage items that make a direct nod to the treasures hidden deep in your grandma’s closet.
FIRST READ: Bold suiting, oversized V-neck sweaters, peacoats and dresses in the designer’s trademark daisy print transpired into a series of caftan dresses in a swirly 70’s-style print, and a handful of red-carpet ready sequined gowns.
BEST LOOK: A sorbet yellow ski-wear-style jacket, worn over a light blue sequined dress with a cowl-neck sweater, teamed with beaded mules with fringed detailed, bum bag and an aqua turban.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Turbans by milliner Stephen Jones in an array of earthy and pastel shades, 90’s-style bum bags, shoes with beading and fringed detailing, school backpacks and trunk bags with trailing feather boa-extensions.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Nicki Minaj, Shiho Yano, Mariya Nishiuchi, Cara Santana, Sita Abellan, Parker Kit Hill, Ami Suzuki, Aya Suzuki, Linda Tol, Anna Nakamura, Dianna Argon, Courtney Love, Caroline Vreeland, Cara Santana, Nicki Minaj, Emily Ratajkowski, Niki Taylor, Zosia Mamet, Bryan Boy.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Do you believe Jacobs when he says he has no plans to leave the brand?”
COLOR WHEEL: Peach, maroon, orange, white, rust, aqua, lemon, brown, blue, apricot, forest green, lime, mint, grey, magenta, yellow.
BEATS: The sweet sound of silence above the pitter-patter of models’ feet. A selection from Italian composer Alfredo Catalani’s opera “La Wally” closed the show.
