Matthew Adams Dolan F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Matthew Adams Dolan served up a suite of edgy workwear for the West Village freelancer with an axe to grind.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Judd Nelson as John Bender in John Hughes’ still-definitive high school comedy The Breakfast Club. An ode to the transitional classic jacket’s layering potential with the insouciance required to pull it off.
WEAR IT TO: Your maiden tryst with your married politics professor at Harvard after taking part in the resistance march.
FIRST READ: Deconstructed suiting with elongated sleeves, chunky cable knits, and a fresh update on the oversized blazer stayed true to Dolan’s relaxed street-style aesthetic, while an array of black denim looks are sure to please the emerging brand’s loyal following. Think a mashup of Weber’s famous campaigns for Calvin Klein, Abercrombie & Fitch and Ralph Lauren.
BEST LOOK: An oversized mint shirt with sloped, flowing sleeves, worn with high-waisted, drainpipe jeans and a navy waistcoat, styled with jewel-encrusted heels.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Shirts with sleeves that trailed below the hem of blazers, statement pearl earrings, and a return of the houndstooth 80’s-style power broker suit, styled with embellished heels.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “The blazers remind me of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.”
COLOR WHEEL: Black, red, powder blue, watermelon, grey, cream, navy, cerulean, saffron, dusty pink, brown, camel.
