Matthew Adams Dolan NYFW S/S19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Fashion designer Clare McCardell of the 1940’s and 50’s, credited with the creation of American sportswear and other functional looks with a tomboyish sensibility.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Rihanna dodging the paparazzi en route to meet still-on billionaire boyfriend Hassan Jameel in a Dolan oversized denim jacket and Tom Ford heels at The Nice Guy in L.A.
WEAR IT TO: Take part in a panel discussion on gender inequality in the fashion industry hosted by the CFDA’s Steven Kolb and president and chairwoman, Diane von Furstenberg.
FIRST READ: Dolan’s latest lineup transitioned from 80’s-style menswear blazers in jewel tones to metallic jackets with a Western flair, with an overarching focus on minimalism. Elevating looks from day to night were classic suiting getups; case in point: a mint silk double-breasted suit teamed with matching shorts and black pumps.
BEST LOOK: A deconstructed off-the-shoulder denim dress featuring a front tie and asymmetrical hemline.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Fall-ready jackets and coats in neon and pastel tones, paired with a neutral palette or contrasting brights. Dolan switched up footwear between athletic tech sneakers and ladylike heels.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Selah Marley, Caroline Vreeland, Miles Brockman, Steven Kolb, Lucien Smith,
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Are you up for trying to sneak into Jeremy Scott next door after this?”
COLOR WHEEL: Magenta, electric blue, chartreuse, cobalt, lemon, lavender, red, mint, seafoam green, white.
