Comedy Cellar – The Lowdown

New York City is home to arguably the best stand-up in the world, the center of that universe being the Comedy Cellar. Any of the multiple nightly shows features a curated mix of the scene’s top talent. And, if you’re lucky, you might be treated to a celebrity drop-in. Dave Chappelle, Ray Romano, Aziz Ansari, Michael Che, and Jon Stewart are among the comedians known to test new material at the Cellar before an upcoming gig. Keep your eyes peeled for any missing bios on the lineup – a stock picture generally means a star is slated to perform a set. Arrive early and grab a drink at the Olive Tree upstairs, where performers can be seen grabbing a meal or catching up in a booth at the back of the restaurant.

Founded in the early 1980’s, the Cellar is run Noam Dworman, the son of co-founder Manny. If the Cellar’s booked out, try for standby tickets, or checkout its sister club, the Village Underground, located around the corner.
