Michael Kors NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: A tribute to American patriotism, spurred by the history of the designer’s immigrant grandparents. Also key was a nod to the utility dressing of the 1940’s: think smart tailoring and ladylike suiting.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Taylor Swift attending former beau Connor Kennedy’s raucous 4th of July house party at the family’s famed summer compound in Cape Cod.
WEAR IT TO: Watch the sunset at an intimate VIP performance by Lenny Kravitz at the Surflodge in Montauk.
FIRST READ: The message of unified support for the country was clear in Kors’ lineup of red, white and blue separates, which walked the line between preppy sweaters and blazers of the Upper East Side tennis crowd variety, and military-inspired trench coats with metal detailing. The brand’s devotees were sure to be delighted the show’s closing looks, which featured of a flurry of red carpet frocks in shimmery fabrics.
BEST LOOK: A Kelly green double-breasted blazer, worn over a blue-and-white striped shirt and teamed with navy trousers covered in an anchor print. Topping off the getup was a spotted silk neck tie, aviators, and yacht-ready stacked sandals.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: The Young People’s Chorus of New York City sang Simon & Garfunkel hits as models sashayed down the runway. Adding to the all-American vibe nautical prints, bucket hats, straw top-handle bags and rugby dresses, styled under check trench coats. Footwear was mixed, ranging from boat shoes to brogues to 40’s-style open toe strappy pumps styled with pulled-up socks.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, Sofia Sanchez de Betak, Yalitza Aparicio, Lucy Hale, Emily Ratajkowski, Sara Sampaio.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I love the increase in live entertainment with the shows this season. Maybe there’s life in fashion week yet!”
COLOR WHEEL: Red, white, blue, silver, black, white, green, brown, grey, khaki, navy, cream.
