INSPIRED BY: The idea of bringing the beach downtown. Think the 90’s Nirvana grunge girl that’s graduated to a marketing and PR job in a converted loft in Soho.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Naomi Watts playing with her kids in an East Village Park on a 100-degree August summer day, before rushing to a working lunch with an up-and-coming producer at Alta in Noho.
WEAR IT TO: Get leid in Hawaii after landing your private jet and checking into the exclusive Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.
FIRST READ: Tie-dyed t-shirt dresses, oversized sweaters in pastel hues, and deconstructed shirt looks with flyaway detailing played to the designer’s focus on catering to the corporate woman on vacation. For those seeking to fly under-the-radar on their next jaunt offshore, there were muted blazers, wide-leg pants in palm-tree print, and sequin skirts and cocktail separates.
BEST LOOK: Carolyn Murphy opening the show in a pink-and-white t-shirt mini dress with a matching throwover, tan thongs and a summery raffia clutch.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Kors continued the season’s trend of flip flips on the runway, featuring nude, white and black pairs alongside blue oxford flats, pastel heels, and Birkenstock-style slides. Adding to the ‘just-landed’ tone were knotted fabric necklaces that referenced Hawaiian leis.
