Macy’s Herald Square – The Lowdown

The Christmas season unofficially kicks off with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which beelines from Central Park to finish at the department store’s flagship in Herald Square. Up your festive quota via a visit to Santaland – a 13,000 square-foot Christmas village on the 8th floor of the 34th Street location. The experience begins with guests taking in the holiday window vignettes from Miracle on 34th Street, followed by jumping aboard the Santaland Express for a simulated train journey that teleports you to the North Pole. Once you’ve arrived, saunter through the wintry villages and snowy scenery until you’re greeted by Santa’s elves. Macy’s events team spares no expense when it comes to authenticity: from elaborate ice sculptures to present-filled sleighs to tinsel-wrapped reindeer – it’s enough to make you want to checkout the seven floors below and take home your own bundle of gifts. While you’ll have to wait at least an hour to see the jolly St. Nick during peak hour on weekends, jump the queue by selecting the Santa Express Lane pass when making reservations online.
