Monse NYFW S/S19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Nautical dressing and the bohemian shabby-chic aesthetic. Design duo Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia also introduced menswear in their latest collection, while keeping a feminine edge throughout.
POP-CULTURE NOD: If the cast of Below Deck Season Six were given a makeover by the contestants of Project Runway.
WEAR IT TO: Sit front row at Rhode Island’s Ocean House’s annual Beach Polo Classic, to watch Yale and Harvard Universities compete in a high-stakes match by the water’s edge.
FIRST READ: Striped sweaters with pearl string accents, tweed blazers and one-shoulder dresses. Kim and Garcia doubled down on the boating theme with a series of silk frocks and skirts featuring a chain-link pattern, while a series of striped rugby-style sweaters and a multi-colored strip poncho played to the show’s all-American vibe. Think the sort of look you might see on a repressed law student that would rather be in design school.
BEST LOOK: A deconstructed denim jacket with flyaway detail and asymmetrical striped fabric added to the lower half, worn over a logo t-shirt and styled with yellow shorts, pull-up socks and black sneakers.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Rope motifs and actual rope used as ties on dresses, PRVC heels with fabric silk fastening, frayed edges and woven and duffle bags.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Nicki Minaj, Paris and Nicki Hilton, Whoopi Goldberg.
