Moon Choi NYFW F/W19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Expanding beyond her knack for expert tailoring, emerging designer Moon Choi presented her latest collection in a lightbox with plastic panels, which added to the lineup’s dramatic effect.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen attending the Studio in a School Anniversary Gala at Seagram Building Plaza in New York.
WEAR IT TO: Indulge in a game of billiards before kicking back with a good book in the expansive library at Brown Beach House on Croatia’s Adriatic coast, a former tobacco warehouse converted by Amsterdam-based interior designer Saar Zafrir.
FIRST READ: Classic suiting, cashmere sweaters with built-in hoods, and oversized wool coats capable of being worn multiple ways combined to create a versatile collection with a luxe vibe. Meanwhile, menswear was given a utilitarian edge by teaming black staples with chunky work boots.
BEST LOOK: A slate turtleneck twist dress with side ruching, paired with matching tights. Also key was a taupe winter coat, featuring front tie detail and a convertible hood.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Many of the coats and jackets carried a unisex look, as did the draped tops and baggy knits, reflecting the designer’s ethos of balancing weighted masculine cuts with feminine forms.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I’ve never been to this venue before and I’m kind of digging it.”
COLOR WHEEL: Camel, blush, taupe, black, navy, slate, mustard, brown, maroon, khaki.
