Naeem Khan F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: An ode to Lady Liberty as a Hollywood bombshell, designer Naeem Khan dedicated his collection to the strong, independent, motivated femme fatale. Cue the series of dreamlike looks that were fit for the red carpet.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Angelina Jolie as a vengeful fairy in Maleficent in an enchanted forest kingdom. Think Mary Poppins and Dick van Dyke performing the penguin dance shuffle during A Step in TIme with a bonnet and cane in tow.Â
WEAR IT TO: Punchdrunk’s immersive experience Sleep No More at the McKittrick Hotel, before ditching the ghoulish white mask and grabbing a Loose Lips Sink Ships cocktail at 1940’s Art Deco speakeasy Slow Shirley, the film-noir hideaway beneath the Happiest Hour.
FIRST READ: Sequinned column dresses, embellished capes, and taffeta ball gowns comprised a collection of showstopping looks capable of falling directly into the suitcase of a dancer with a valid visa, while animal-print coats, floral embroidered cropped tops and sheer, floor-length gowns with sequin applique elevated comfier looks into nighttime territory.Â
BEST LOOK:Â A strapless, 80’s-style prom dress with a high-low train in purple and magenta, styled with a matching cape tied at the neck with a pussycat bow and oversized hoop earrings.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS:Â Floral embroidery peppered on the sleeves of velvet blazers and fedoras, athleisure-inspired jumpsuits, draw-string pants and velour bombers with faux-fur trim.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “The sequin hooded look reminds me of Scarlett Johansson as The Black Widow on a Tinder date with The Silver Surfer.“Â
COLOR WHEEL: Â Emerald, navy, purple, lemon yellow, magenta, dusty pink, red, white, silver, grey.
