DATE: Sept.8
START TIME: 9AM + 18mins
TOP INSTA LOOK: A futuristic take on the fanny pack for the intergalactic space traveler, served up in an array of desert-inspired muted earthy tones.
BEHIND THE SCENES: Guests discussing the designers’ decision to draw inspiration from the location of the set of Matt Damon’s The Martian film. Photographers were gifted a trademark blue jacket to honor the recently departed beloved fashion and street style photographer Bill Cunningham.
OFF PROBATION: For the U.S. election conspiracy theorists, the fashion equivalent of a tin foil hat was reimagined via an outstanding drape-collared silver leather trenchcoat and matching jodhpurs, worn over a draped cream blouse and baseball cap.
GOOD BEHAVIOUR BOND: A dried herb colored off-the-shoulder silk blouse, styled with matching shorts and a patterned top tied around the waist, with the addition of a vegetable-dyed wide-brimmed hat.
INSPIRED BY: Jordan Arabic-language drama thriller film Theeb, which takes place in the Wadi Rum region of Jordan, which the designers’ cited as the motivation behind the collection’s Bedouin and desert-themed vibe.
POP CULTURE-NOD: Angelina Jolie taking a break from her messy split from Brad Pitt to attend a fundraising event following a heartbreaking day as part of her United Nations special envoy duties delivering emotional speeches at refugee camps in Jordan.
WEAR IT TO: Your upcoming glamping excursion at the Rest House of Wadi Rum village after watching the sun drop under the horizon as you relax in your luxury Bedouin camp against the gentle flames of traditional lamps in your private desert retreat.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I’m so hungover and it’s only day one – I can’t believe they have shows at 9AM.”
SPOTTED: Olivia Jordan, Paulina Vega, Frederique van der Wal, Jake Miller, Jesse Rutherford, Davon Carlson, Zoe Silverman.
COLOR WHEEL: Desert nudes, olive, sage, shimmery browns and muted earthy tones.
THE DOCKET: Staying true to their signature urban military aesthetic, sister-and-brother team Nicholas and Christopher Kunz delivered a range of nomadic warrior looks with an organic, artistic feel. The offering’s canyon-inspired color palette in a range of vegetable dyed leathers, woven fabrics and alpaca wool paid homage to the pair’s shift to a more sustainable focus, while the oversized sculptural jewelry as part of a collaboration with Lisa Linhardt added a dose of romantic femininity to the lineup.
