Nicole Miller NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The idea of déjà vu, or things coming full circle. Titled, “Lost and Found”, designer Nicole Miller fused Parisian chic with memories of her time spent in Tokyo and the notion of the free-spirited bohemian to deliver a collection sure to please fans of her flirty day and evening wear.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Eva Longoria in sunglasses and a straw hat perusing the Brentwood Framers Market in L.A., before grabbing a cocktail on the rooftop at Soho House.
WEAR IT TO: Catch an intimate acoustic gig at St. Pancreas Old Church in London.
FIRST READ: Miller eschewed the grungy aesthetic of her fall collection in favor of ladylike florals and ‘90s tie-dyed effect prints on flouncy wrap dresses, sheer blouses with ruffle detail, slouchy shorts and tailored blazers. A series of looks paid homage to the kimono via obi belts and Japanese-inspired prints on leather mini skirts and boots, which added to the rock-chick-in-Shoreditch vibe that closed the show.
BEST LOOK: A relaxed-fit button-down silk shirt in a navy and cobalt tie-dye effect, paired with matching shorts and blazer and teamed with stacked sandals with Velcro straps.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Garden party-ready sheer floral prints styled over clashing geometric motifs, neon eye makeup, worn throughout, sash belts, and patchwork dresses with thigh-high slits.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Catriona Gray, Kayla Quinn, Kelly Bemsimon, Emma Pritchard, Sydney Sadick, Lynn Snowden Picket, Cameron Silver, Derek Warburton, Melissa Vale, Greivy, Sarah Gallazzi, Jeanne Grey, Caitlyn Warakomski, Jannel Varona, Naomi Adams, Carrie Berk, Aliana Galán, Nick Graham, Morgan O’Connor.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I could see the silk slips translating to fall with a knit thrown over the top with a pair of boots.”
COLOR WHEEL: Navy, cobalt, black, white, rose, orange, red, pink, seafoam, yellow, steel, charcoal, blush, olive, rust, slate.
