Novis S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY:Â Vintage botanical paintings and the delicate intricacy of the drawings that precede them, with a focus on the more unusual species of flower.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Miranda Priestly pursing her lips and mouthing, “That’s all,” after a scared designer presented his September looks to her in The Devil Wears Prada.
WEAR IT TO:Â Interview sessions as part of the hunt for your new Hampton’s gardener after your fling with the previous one failed, before heading off with your second husband to a hedge-fund soiree.
FIRST READ: Ruffled color-block cocktail gowns and a relaxed-fit sleeved frock featuring hand-embellished silk chiffon florals echoed the show’s garden-party vibe, while a series of wide-leg pants and pajama-style looks added a casual vibe to the polished lineup.
BEST LOOK:Â A strappy black floor-length dress with an oversized-red bow at the front. Another standout was a v-neck midi dress featuring yellow, lilac and purple floral applique.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS:Â Saffron eyeshadow smeared across models’ lids appeared like pollen and amped-up the show’s botanical theme. Strappy slides and mules in popping orange and more muted tones were perfect for a poolside sundowner.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:Â “This collection reminds me that I’m down on my Montauk weekned quote this summer. It’s a troubling time we live in.”
COLOR WHEEL:Â Red, black, lilac, purple, orange, cream, green, blue and aqua.
