Oscar de la Renta NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Creative team Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia’s recent trip to Dubai, which sparked a broader conversation around the idea of travel, centering on the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba in Spain as key behind their latest collection.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Amal Clooney attending an industry gala with George after allowing Meghan Markle to hitch a ride on her private jet to return to London from New York.
WEAR IT TO: Rub shoulders with Europe’s elite at a sundowner by the water at the Il Sereno hotel on Lake Como in Italy.
FIRST READ: Elegant suiting in rich jewel tones with floral embroidery and military-style button accents, one-shoulder jacquard cocktail frocks, and wool-knit sweaters and pants with tribal tassel fringing. The brand’s signature red-carpet numbers were presented in abundance: think striking off-the-shoulder asymmetrical dresses with strategic cutouts, a Valentine’s Day-ready red mid dress with a sweetheart neckline, and a strapless number with a magenta geometric pattern.
BEST LOOK: A strapless marigold floor-length gown with a fractal print, paired with gold drop earrings.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: A plush brown fur coat with diamante embellishments added a luxe feel to a daywear look, while a white relaxed-fit dress with a built-in tassel scarf played to the lineup’s youthful, laid-back vibe.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Karolina Kurkova, Lucase Jagger, Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Theodora Richards, Natalia Dyer.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I’m really liking the bigger focus on daywear looks this season.”
COLOR WHEEL: Maroon, marigold, gray, brown, rust, blue, green, red, navy, khaki, cream, white, gold, lavender, black, sage, magenta, pink.
