PH5 NYFW S/S20 – Review

INSPIRED BY: The 1980s in Japan; which marked the birth of street fashion in the country. Designers Wei Lin and Mijia Zhang centered on the kitschy preppy style of Japanese teenagers during the splashy era when crafting their latest collection, with a focus on creating durable workwear with an urban appeal.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Emma Roberts chairing a panel discussion with fellow actor peers to discuss their debut novels at the Brooklyn Book Festival.
WEAR IT TO: A corporate networking event in the basement of co-working space, NeueHouse, where you’ll sip cocktails while listening to live jazz and learning about your neighbor’s new app idea.
FIRST READ: Lin and Zhang’s delivered a suit of their signature blazers and sheer separates, shying away from the trademark wavy piping on bodycon dresses in favor of tanks with geometric jagged hemlines on tank midi dresses. Also key were chiffon dresses worn over bralettes and with men’s-inspired slip-on shoes.
BEST LOOK: A black coat worn over a knitted vest and tailored button-down shirt, styled over a mint knife pleat skirt, striped socks and croc-embossed leather mules.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I’d been wondering what the deal was with The Standard’s swimming pool initiative.”
COLOR WHEEL: White, pink, cement, brown, blue, yellow, black, caramel, lime, blush, mint, sand, lilac.
