Prabal Gurung NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Prabal Gurung’s jet-setting 2018, namely time spent traveling to Nepal, India, China and beyond. Dubbed, “Suitcases of the World,” the collection centered bright separates with an international flair, certain to keep his core clientele extremely upbeat come fall.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Brand aficionado Zoe Saldana on the press junket for her new movie about ‘80s Hallmark staple, Rainbow Brite.
WEAR IT TO: The Pantone Color Institutes unveiling of the tapped hue of 2020 at the Chateau Marmont in December.
FIRST READ: Vibrant separates with an athletic slant: think cozy coats with a quilted interior, one-shouldered silk gowns with feather detail, and metallic embellishments on sheer ‘70s-style jumpsuits and duster coats. Also key were the brand’s signature party frocks with ruffled necklines and cinched with trailing bows, given a New Yorker-aesthetic through styling them with flat black-and-gold mules.
BEST LOOK: A black strapless mini dress in a peplum silhouette, featuring organza ruffles, sequins and ostrich trim and styled with white Western-inspired boots.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Trailing chains on a black jersey dress, a multi-colored zip-up jacket covered entirely in feathers, and statement drop earrings with crystal detail.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Bella Thorne, Angela Sarafyan, Dani Thorne, Nina Agdal, Tao Okamoto, Jordan Roth, MJ Rodriguez, Huma Abedin, Lauren Santo Domingo, Tarana Burke, Lauren Condor, Erica Russo, Munroe Bergdorf, Myles O’Neal, Billy Porter, Ryan Jamaal Swain.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “Should we Waverly Inn after the show? Is it bad that I use bars as verbs?”
COLOR WHEEL: Red, yellow, black, white, emerald, magenta, lavender, maroon, gold, aqua, purple, khaki, mustard, cobalt, green.
