Prabal Gurung F/W 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Power women and feminism, even when shrouded in menswear looks. The notion of resistance through fashion – the collection served as the fashion equivalent as an ACLU ribbon. Officially, the designer cited “Gynarchy”, or government by women, as the theme of the show. Gurung cited the Mosuo tribe of China and the Gulabi Gang movement of Northern India.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Emma Watson hosting a #metoo pink-themed pre-Oscars party in L.A.
WEAR IT TO: A bird watching safari in Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro National Park followed by rooftop drinks on the beach with your celebratory posse.
FIRST READ: Ribbed sweater dresses with feather trim, flirty sequinned dresses with thigh-high splits, and crushed velvet bombers with fur trims gave the show a vampy vixen vibe, while strappy cocktail frocks with colorful beading detailing added an edgy, youthful injection to the mix.
BEST LOOK: A cerulean knee-length sweater dress with blue and white feather trim, teamed with ivory ankle boots.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: The designer’s focus on pink played to the show’s focus on the political outlook in America, with a magenta sequin showstopper paying homage to the pink saris of the bright pink saris of the Gulabi. #MeToo founder Tarana Burke was among those in the front row.
