Prabal Gurung NYFW S/S20 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Multiculturalism, diversity, and the rich history of American fashion. Designer Prabal Gurung’s knack for crafting vampy evening looks in vibrant hues with an international flair shone through as he presented his collection on a diverse cast of models, many of whom walked the runway with pretty bouquets.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Kendall Jenner walking the infamous red steps at the Global Citizen-themed Met Gala.
WEAR IT TO: Party with the A-list crowd at the luxury Gecko Beach Club in Formentera, Spain.
FIRST READ: Ballgowns, cocktail frocks, and slinky daywear with an athletic slant. Think a one-shoulder cotton-blend cutout dress that would be the perfect choice for an extroverted bride-to-be, a ruched shirt dress styled open at the thigh for a duster coat effect, tie-dye tank tops, and ostrich-feather-embellished cropped jackets. Gurung’s ability to transition effortlessly from sporty, casual looks to glammed-up couture was evident at every turn. Case in point: a slouchy tie-dye sweater with embroidery and feather detail, teamed with drawstring trackpants in a floral print and black high-top sneakers, followed by a look which featured a one-shoulder dress with a cutout at the midsection in green and yellow stripes, topped off with a festival-ready flower crown.
BEST LOOK: A patchwork-effect tank midi-dress covered in candy-colored sequins, featuring an asymmetrical hemline, styled with black sandals, an oversized bouquet, and slicked-back hair for a just-emerged-from-the-water mermaid effect. Also key was a black-and-white feather-embellished strapless silk midi dress.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Patent leather pumps with chain-ankle detail, celebratory flower headpieces and bouquets, handwoven raffia bags, and denim tucked into Western boots.
