Proenza Schouler NYFW F/W19 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Design duo Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough’s efforts to redefine their interpretation of the Proenza Schouler woman in 2019.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Chloe Sevigny catching a special screening of Luis Bunuel’s acclaimed 1967 movie Belle De Jour at MoMa in midtown.
WEAR IT TO: After-work cocktails at rooftop bar TAK in Brunkebergstorg, Stockholm, before retiring to  the adjacent At Six hotel to catch a DJ set in the slow-listening lounge.
FIRST READ: Tailored menswear suiting in the form of oversized blazers and deconstructed shirting, color-blocked halter frocks, and ribbed wool-knit dresses with side slits, combined to create a lineup of classic daywear looks and a few leather numbers that strayed into after-dark territory. Also present were the brand’s trademark pleated midi dresses in black and white, featuring a sash worn undone to form a trailing detail.
BEST LOOK: A fuzzy patchwork coat in khaki, black and brown, styled over a ribbed knit and pleated gold Lurex dress, paired with leather pants and square-toned boots, which added to the show’s edgy utilitarian vibe.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Leather pinafore-style dresses paired with convertible clutches with zipper hardware, a zebra print on a floor-length gown with strategic cutouts, and a sheer PVC double-breasted trench coat that seemed designed for Patrick Bateman in American Psycho.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Olivia Culpo, Shailene Woodley, Karen Elson, Liya Kebede, Carine Roitfeld, Hari Nef, Paloma Elsesser, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Aymeline Valade, Tommy Dorfmann.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE:
“This area is going to explode within the next two months – I’ll be able to walk here on the High Line
COLOR WHEEL: Black, gold, khaki, white, powder blue, mustard, brown, gray, marigold, taupe, navy.
