Public School S/S 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The iconic plastic bag used by businesses run by immigrant communities, with the show being held in New York’s historic Chinatown.
POP-CULTURE NOD: The new environmentally-friendly brand ambassador for NASCAR. Think Leonardo DiCaprio directing a sequel to Talladega Nights with a climate-change tilt.
WEAR IT TO: Your graveyard shift packing groceries at the Gristedes on 1st Ave.
FIRST READ: Mechanic-inspired oversized men’s shirts, deconstructed jumpsuits, and a reimagined take on the humble shopping bag rounded-out the streetwear-focused collection, while parachute parkas, baseball caps and slip-on knee-high boots gave the lineup a relaxed, athletic feel.
BEST LOOK: A plaid trucker shirt with a tacked-on train, featuring the iconic New York bodega smiley face logo, styled with disposable hospital shoe covers.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Staged in a narrow alleyway in Chinatown with a single row of benches, designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne used the humble transparent plastic and the phrase, “come again”, as a key motif throughout the show. They also used the occasion to debut a fresh all-white collaboration with Air Jordan.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Stefano Tonchi, ASAP Ferg, Renell Medrano, Nicola Knels, Veronique Tristram, Justine Skye, Victor Oladipo, Fabolous, Cordell Broadus, Hannah Bronfman, DJ Cassidy, Ken Downing, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, G-Eazy.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I haven’t been down here since I lived above Tammany Hall on Orchard Street – living above a multilevel nightclub was hell on earth.”
COLOR WHEEL: Blue, red, white, navy, saffron yellow, indigo, black, khaki, grey.
