Pyer Moss F/W 2018 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Kerby Jean-Raymond organized a gospel choir to sing anthems of black empowerment in support of the Black Live’s Matter movement. Officially, the designer cited the black cowboys of the 19th century, namely Wild West show performer and actor Bill Pickett.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Former Falcon Sam Wilson as Captain America.
WEAR IT TO: Skydive over Long Island City before catching the Super Bowl at Johnny Utah’s southwestern cowboy bar in Manhattan. Think Team America with an activist agenda.
FIRST READ: Deconstructed American flag print peppered across bomber jackets, oversized scarves and furry jackets played to the show’s patriotic vibe, while button-down shirts featuring a Cross Colors logo and Western-style denim jackets added a cowboy aesthetic to the mix.
BEST LOOK: A deep red air force-inspired jumpsuit, styled with a Star Spangled Banner-print bomber, an oversized bolero hat and white Reebok sneakers as part of a collaboration with the athletic brand.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Chunky knit scarves with a star print, black and red boleros, normcore sneakers and sportif track jackets played to the show’s streetwear feel.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “This is the second show I’ve seen today with a heavy Western influence – I predict cowboy boots will make a comeback this fall.”
COLOR WHEEL: Navy, tomato, white, black, mustard, indigo, taupe, apricot.
