R13 NYFW F/W19 – Review
INSPIRED BY: Designer Chris Leba’s trips to thrift shops and vintage stores in Austin, Texas. Think grandma shabby-chic with a grungy Nirvana-esque aesthetic.
POP-CULTURE NOD: The next Sophia Amoruso scouring the latest additions to Buffalo Exchange in Williamsburg, before heading to Starbucks on N 7th to meet a tech entrepreneur for a Tinder date with the intention of tricking him into building her website for free.
WEAR IT TO: Sip cider from a mason glass during a midnight double screening of Wayne’s World and Clerks at Nighthawk Cinema in Prospect Park.
FIRST READ: Relaxed-fit suiting paired with a teddy-bear print tee, leopard-print shawls worn over crop tops with punk-rock slogans, and tartan double-breasted coats worn with clashing paisley tights, echoed the show’s ‘90s “anything goes” vibe. Also key were snowboarding parkas in a camo print with fur trim, and a range of looks that seemed as if cobbled together by an aspiring Project Runway prodigy.
BEST LOOK: A navy plaid coat with leopard-print lining, worn over camel denim overalls and styled with platform sneakers covered in scribble, a suite of mismatched vintage necklaces, and a fur aviator hat.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Dreamcatcher beads hanging from cozy coats, broaches and embellished pins tacked to the lapel of trench coats opposite layered strings of pearls, and Dr. Martens-inspired lace-up combat boots covered in a floral print.
SPOTTED IN THE FROW: Ian Mellencamp, Alice Kim, Christina Cruse, Craig McDean, Jeffrey Goldstein, Samantha Goldstein.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “This is the first show I’ve seen Kaia Gerber walk in this season.”
COLOR WHEEL: Navy, red, white, brown, gray, blue, khaki, camel, orange, cobalt, taupe, black, gunmetal.
