Reem Acra F/W 2018 – Review

INSPIRED BY: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince – the infamous tale about a boy visiting earth from a tiny asteroid – and an ode to celestial dressing for the red carpet in outer space.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Judy Jetson at the annual Debutante Ball on the steps of the Cotillion Room at the Pierre Hotel.
WEAR IT TO: Take in the cosmic views of Los Angeles night skies at the Reopening Galactic Gala at the Griffith Observatory.
FIRST READ: Strapless ball gowns with a focus on structure and gathered pleating were key in the collection, which was served up in a 60’s, space-inspired palette, while lace capes with bead applique added a Gothic element to the mix. Think the sort of getup you would don to a wedding rehearsal dinner.
BEST LOOK: A teal floor-length maxi dress with ruched sleeves, featuring planetary prints in candy-colored tones.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Crystal beadwork on drop-waist dresses and strapless gowns featuring oversized bows at the back combined to give the collection a distinct youthful feel, while a series of layered tulle frocks were easily imagined on the red carpet. As always, the designer’s focus on geometric prints and voluminous silhouettes marched in line with the show’s ode to femininity.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “The sleeveless dresses with the moon and planet shapes reminds me of a Cynthia Rowley number.”
