Rosie Assoulin NYFW S/S20 – Review
INSPIRED BY: The Brooklyn-based designer’s nod to the idea of an eternal summer: think the sort of gear you’d wear while serving wedges of watermelon to guests at your Hamptons estate on a hot August evening.
POP-CULTURE NOD: Karlie Kloss on vacation with Joshua Kushner on the streets of St. Tropez.
WEAR IT TO: A sunset jazz session over mojitos at Little Beach House Barcelona on a secluded beach just outside of Catalan.
FIRST READ: The mix of statement separates and evening looks balanced each other out to create a collection fit to take brand devotees from daytime to happy hour with ease: think plaid wide-leg silk-blend pants, paisley print cotton dresses, ruffled two-tone cotton gowns, and high-waisted pleated linen skirts paired seamlessly with matching bustier cropped tops. Fans were sure to be pleased with a series of Assoulin’s signature accents in a puffed sleeve cold-shoulder dress and a black ruched midi frock with strategic cutouts. This season was all about plays on proportion, evidenced by a statement double-layered white dress with a drop-waist ruffled hemline and built-in caplet.
BEST LOOK: An orange pleated A-line ball skirt with a green silk belt, teamed with a knotted button-down shirt covered in a graphic print. Also key was a layered cami dress featuring a sheer black midsection and a white paneled skirt.
EYE-CATCHING ACCENTS: Woven straw hats – some with frayed raw edges – strappy sandals in fruit salad hues, oversized totes with fold-down closures, nautical stripes and plaid on tailored separates such as blazers and wrap tops.
OVERHEARD COURTSIDE: “I thought this venue was shut down ages ago – I hope they keep it open year-round!”
COLOR WHEEL: Kelly green, caramel, azure, orange, marigold, white, dark brown, lime, pink, taupe, sage, black, purple, yellow.
